Study on Environmental Sustainable Development Indices Based on Project Management PMBOK Standards (Case Study:Esfahan City)

Based on human need toward sustainable development in addition to the cities and citizens phenomena as the main stimulators for moving into sustainability, the United Nations suggested a goal as “Urban Sustainable Development” meaning to “make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”. Achieving to Urban Sustainable Development is essentially dealing with conducting “Standard Project Management” a long with sustainable development indices. Thus, the main objective of this research was investigation on achieving Urban Sustainable Development through Standard Project Management. For this purpose, five big environmental urban projects were selected based on the city reports and experts’ recommendations. The projects were evaluated based on their compliance with 10 knowledge area of Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide (PMBOK Standard) and also based on the four environmental indices in Sustainable Development Goals agenda issued by United Nations. For analyzing, the method of “Analytic Hierarchy Process” was applied in order to extract the weight of each PMBOK knowledge area for every five projects. The “Expert Choice” application was also applied to run the method and the results were compared with the results from USD indices. The final results showed that the average scores for “Esfahan environmental projects”, “the indices averaged from similar research” and “the averages for PMBOK conducting” were 54, 50 and 48, respectively. The slight difference between the averages showed that running urban projects based on the PMBOK standard would lead cities toward sustainable development.
